Where did my toadstool go?

I had a pine tree in my yard cut down a year or two ago, and the stump ground, but I didn't have the roots pulled.

A week ago an 8" toadstool appeared where the grindings are, and a when next I looked, the toadstool had completely disappeared. No remains on the ground. What happened? Did something eat it? Did it dissolve in the rain (was there rain?)? I wash my edible mushrooms with water and they don't dissolve. Why would toadstools? What else could have made it disappear?

Bidenflation has driven the price of poisonous toadstools through the roof. I suspect a poor welfare Democrat stole it.

There are squirrels nearby but they never come into my small townhouse yard. OTOH, maybe they'd make an exception if they like to eat toadstools. A second one came and went, but I didn't pay enough attention to it. If there is a 3rd, I will try much harder to notice.
