I saw an item on line at WalMart and thought I'd go to the store. It was $25, about $5 more in the store. Most mail order warehouses are very efficient. Just look at the rent and overhead to keep a big store going. That has to be a big chunk of the markup.

There will always be a need for some retail but the big stores are fading away. Not a good time to invest in a shopping mall.

A few years ago I walked over to the B&N brick and mortar store looking for a programming book. They didn't hve it in stock but said they could order it. I went online and the book was less expensive with free in store pickup. Okaaaay...

The Kirkland brands are around $30 in the store and was $45 when I looked online. (in the summer) This wasn't shipped, it was curbside pickup. I never looked online again. Amazon can really be out of whack on some stuff. I was looking at a quartz heat lamp that was $23 at a light bulb place plus $9 shipping

To be fair Lowes can be the same way, particularly if you get the military discount. They will not give you the discount on a store purchase for an on sale item but you get it online with the 10% off and pick up the same item in the store. For small stuff it is no big deal but on a $1200 Fridge, it was worth driving home and coming back an hour later.
