What is the point of this:
It's a battery cable end but what is the point of of the thing that sticks out an inch? Just a place to attach a wire? Isn't that thing goign to get in the way?

Great. That's important. Although I haven't had much corrosion or battery acid lately, i'm sure some people do, and you don't want to learn the hard way.
Better picture too.
allow easy addition of direct wired circuits. A lot of "audiophools" use them to connect their high wattage stereos - also work good for connecting a winch - - -
