Washing machine motor not attempting to agitate but will spin cycle

Any of you pros know what was causing the agitator to not work? There was no hum or anything, just the sound of the control timer ticking. I spun the drum like 1/8 a turn when it was suppose to be agitating. I heard a litle click sound, like a relay or something engaging, and it immediately just started right up like nothing was ever wrong. The click came from inside the main body somewhere and not the control panel area. Now it seems to start-up by itself again.

Other details:

1) Spnning in spin cycle or spinning when unplugged didn't "free" the agitate only spinning when it was suppose to be on and agitating. 1) Spin cycle is fine 2) Swapped out timers w/ no change. 3) Door-switch is good. 4) Water level switch is good. 5)The model is kenmore 110 92389200 . 6) It might be early 90's vintage? I just replaced the timer a few months ago because one of its motor contacts wore out.

Contact repairclinic.com for advice and parts. They will probably know what part of the system is keeping the motor reversing switching operation from working right. Good luck.
