BMI 23.5. My wife complains that I'm too skinny.

No plum puddings for you?

I don't know where they pulled that out of. First off, there are no damn plums in plum pudding.

Now that's the real stuff.I don't know if suet pudding and plum pudding are synonymous in Britain. I also don't know how it made it into my mother's holiday repertoire.

There is that. They just enlarged and reorganized ours. It took me two months to find the dried blueberries again. Then there are the products that make one appearance and then are gone forever.

It looked edible until I read the recipe. I like bread pudding but it's a dense production, not custard. I don't like custard rice pudding either. My rice pudding is milk, rice, sugar, salt, and a little vanilla.

"THEN I had religion. THEN I had a vision. I could not turn from their revel in derision. THEN I SAW THE CONGO, CREEPING THROUGH THE BLACK, CUTTING THROUGH THE JUNGLE WITH A GOLDEN TRACK."

We learned that in either 7th or 8th grade. 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' was the other poem but I can't remember which year was which.

I don't know about Tennyson but i doubt Vachel Lindsay gets read in grade school anymore. Too bad; Lindsay had rhythm.

My last try of progressives didn't work well and I think that was part of it. I may try again. One problem is when you're going down a rocky trail you're looking through the part mean for close up reading. Great way to induce vertigo.

One of those... I was familiar with Fred Meyer from the '90s and they were a decent grocery store with a few extras. A couple of years ago I stopped in one to get some groceries. I must have went in the wrong door. After finding my way through ladies lingerie, home decor, and so forth I thought I would starve before I found food. Wiki says they stopped selling guns and ammunition to people under 21 in 2018 so there probably were guns in there someplace.

They had a great selection when I finally found something to eat.

Yeah, it's not typical. I delivered a load of dried beans to a canned chili manufacturer. There was a reefer load of chicken in the next bad. The guy's reefer had failed and the original consignee refused load. Just add some more spices to that run. I don't buy canned chili and definitely not that brand.

My refrigerator is vintage. Remember the ones with the little aluminum box that held two ice cube trays? Luckily I can eat the same thing for days with no difficulty.

Here is an excellent bottle of 1931 Chateau de Loup Garou (that we found when remodeling the cellar). I picked up some 2 year old KerryGold Reserve today -- that's about as far as I want to push it.

Yep, all of mine have been theirs with no regrets with any of them.

Mine are all simple lenses tho.

There was an ancient mariner And he stoppeth one of three...

No. The Brits in my background are a couple of centuries back.

My grandmother fully embraced convenience food. She did a mean butter brickle cake with the Betty Crocker mix. Another dessert involved vanilla wafer crumbs, marshmallows, canned pineapple, and Cool Whip.

It was a dark time. I had to leave home before I began to really enjoy food. Learning that green beans don't have to be cooked to mush was a revelation.

It's what they used to call raisons, apparently.

Not all suet puddings are as dark as that. And there is the light suet pudding called "spotted dick".

Suet is also used to make a stodgy pastry for deserts such as jam roly poly.

And steak and kidney pudding should have a suet pastry.

And then there are mince pies, made using sweet mincemeat, which hasn't contained any meat for centuries, but used to contain suet until the vegetarians got to it, so now they contain fake suet made from flour and palm oil.

I think you would need a food mixer, which I don't have.

"Spotted Richard" these days

I'm not sure what you mean? Too much cigarette smoke? One-armed bandits singing?

I've been to very crowded stores in San Jose, the main problem is getting in and out of the parking lot. My current store is in-and-out in 10 minutes. The self-service checkouts have made a big difference.

My opthomogolist sends me to an optometrist who writes complex prescriptions that don't work. They optimize corrections for each eye and forget that I use two eyes together most of the time.

So I make up my own prescriptions, simple spherical corrections, and buy them from Zenni.

I think you are rather confused as to how eyesight works.

Crowds. Noise. Sensory overload. I have no inclination to put myself through that for dubious savings. Most of their merchandise is stuff I don't want or need.

Hm.. None of that at the store I use. Never any lines at the self checkout.

I save several hundre dollars a year on just groceries shopping there. Take Bread, for instance. The stuff I like costs $6.00 for a 1.5 pound loaf at the grocery store, and $8.00 for -two-

2.0 pound loaves (freeze one) at costco. Call it about $48/year savings just on bread, which almost covers the basic membership fee.

Then there is the fresh fruit (blueberrys, cherries in season, grapes) all of which are higher quality than the grocery store and cheaper.

Meats are less expensive and higher quality.

Laundry detergent. Toilet paper is far cheaper and much higher quality (and costco hasn't reduced the width or number of sheets per roll like most of the store brands have). Paper towels. Printer ink. Batteries. Asparagus. Bell Peppers.

YMMV.
