A lot of that stuff ends up in cans and processed foods so it doesn't all go to waste. There are also people who understand pretty is not always tasty. That is particularly true in citrus. Those pristine California naval oranges, bred for beauty are pretty tasteless compared to an ugly naval with black spots on it. With citrus, beauty is truly skin deep. The same is true of lots of fruits. That is why the canned stuff actually has more flavor than most you see at the fruit stand. They peel it and throw away the ugly part.
