Sump Pump issue

Feb 13, 2008 2 Replies

The sump pump basin is not taking in water currently, or filling up like it should. I looked with a flash light to the bottom and I don't see any obvious clogs or something that would keep it from letting the water flow in the usual way. My husband has now drilled 2 small holes in the basin about 5 inches from the top, so that french drains don't over flow. Any ideas on why this may be occurring or what we can do about it? The sump pump is working properly when the water level rises in the basin. (But only because of the "new" drain holes). Thanks Debbro

Is there water coming through those holes?

Have there been any changes around you lately - construction?

Is the ground frozen where you are, in winter drain systems where I am at little water comes in. Or it was installed improperly and is clogged up.
