Stain On Formica Countertop: Suggestions Please ?

Feb 01, 2004 3 Replies

Hello:

Great group.

Have a light color formica top on a kitchen counter, many years old, but in good condition

It has a stain on it, probably about a month or so old. No way of knowing what it is from; brownish in color.

Have tried just about all of the typical household cleansers on it, including a toothpaste rub, without any discernable improvement.

Might anyone suggest anything worth trying for formica type stains ?

BTW: Any other suggested places to post this question to ?

Much thanks, Bob

Bleach.

Lay a couple of paper towels down over the area, saturate them with bleach, and leave it work for 24 hours. If you have any pets or kids who might ingest it, take the necessary precautions to "rope off" the area.

first try Tom's bleach idea..if that doesn't work try some laquor thinner on a rag to rub it...most countertop fabshops use laquor thinner to clean the tops as do i when i install them...have been for "service" calls where laquor thinner did indeed remove stains...good luck

I'll bet that Barkeeper's Friend scouring powder will take it out.
