SEER And EER Air Conditioner Definitions ?

Hello:

For air conditioner terms and definitions:

Can someone please explain the difference between SEER and EER ?

Those numbers they always kick around like 8 and 12 SEER: Are these the same as EER ?

if not, how does one convert from one to the other ?

Thanks, Bob

The 3.412 constant is the amount of Btus one watt of electricity will generate with resistance heat.

Wrong... 1 watt of electrical power makes 3.412 Btu _PER HOUR_ of heat power.

So, which is larger, the SEER (measured over a season, with cycles) or the EER (measured with constant 80 and 95 F indoor and outdoor temps)?

SEER is average COOLING efficiency in BTUs per watt. EER is Cooling Efficiency at fixed conditions ibn BTUs per watt.

SEER means Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. EER means Energy Efficiency Ratio. HSPF is Heating Seasonal Performance Ratio.

Which is larger, for the same AC? I'd guess the EER...

Looks like I guessed wrong, according to graphs with EER/SEER of 10/11, 13/15, and 18/22 on one web site.

compares

12.15 EER vs 17.5 SEER for a Carrier 38TDB037300 and 12.8 EER vs 18 SEER for a Trane TTZ036, with matching indoor units.

The EER is measured at 95/75 DB/WB, vs 82/65 for the SEER.
