Is a "Square" a square yard or 100 square feet when it comes to roofing talk?

FWIW, it applies to siding also.
If you look closely, and read the packaging, it's actually about 96 sq ft for siding and I forget what it is for roofing. So it's "about" 100 sq ft. Silly, eh? Stupid, too. Call it what it is, Id' think, but ... .
