Ring doorbell (2025 Update)

Jan 20, 2019 Last reply: 8 months ago 11 Replies

Anyone have one? I put one in a few days ago and so far, I like it.

I was concerned how it would work as the existing bell button is on the wall that is 90 degrees to the door. Turns out, it gives 180 degree coverage so I can see not only the door, but the path to the door.

Onc4e a day or so I do get a motion notice and nothing is there. Wind, a neighbor next door can set it off, but not annoyingly so. You can also set the area to be covered.

Like a lot of new things, it can take a few months to see how good it really is so I will try to remember to report back after some time.

can operate in temperatures 5°F to 120°F (-20.5°C to 48.5°C

I guess I could remove it for a few months every winter... :-)

Best scam story, one for the record books, was on TV news a couple weeks ago. They were interviewing this lady that fell for it. She looked like she was in her 60s, like she could be a teacher, ie she looked and spoke like she should easily know it was a scam. So, what did she fall for? A scam call that started with a really bad automated computer voice that said it was the social security administration calling, that her number had been stolen and all her accounts were going to be seized. Then she was channeled to a person who explained that a Mexican drug cartel had stolen her SS# and an arrest warrant for her was about to be issued, all her bank accounts would be frozen. So, they instructed her to keep them on the line and go to her bank to withdraw her money, which she did. OK, so now comes the final part, it;s almost impossible to believe someone who isn't senile could fall for it. They instructed her where to find an ATM and told her how to put the cash into it and send it to one of the crypto currencies, eg Bitcoin! I mean, even if you believed all the other BS, who would be dumb enough to not just keep the money you withdrew in your hands? And I would assume these must be some special ATMs, I;ve never seen one where you could put money in and send it to a crypto currency account. But that's what she did. Fortunately she was only out $1500.

What's an Anti Virus ? Is that a program that monitors all your emails and sites you visit and occasionally uploads files from your computer to "keep you safe and secure" ? And even tells you in the TOS it shares your files and information with un-named "trusted partners" ?

If you suspect malware, upload it to Jotti before you run it:

That and a good firewall and you should be OK. []'s

I don't like the fact that it sends video clips to your phone. That is too much data and takes too long to load when you are not on wifi. They should have an option where it sends jpegs. Also, by the time you receive the door bell message the delivery guy is already gone.

Yeah, I do too.

Yeah, can't recall even one that wasn’t, apart from mine.

But you and I likely only see the computers of the technoklutzes.

McAfee IS a Virus according to John McAfee, publically.

I run MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) on Win7. The samer is all I need with Win10 (bride machine).

True, but you know he was there, as well as other potential trouble makers on video. Not perfect, but better than nothing.

some other thing that should be considered. A slippery slope depending on your views

Not a virus, it's malware (dataminers, profilers, privacy-miners, adware). They ALL are. And he only confessed after he left the business. He's smart. I don't like his choice of women though. Must be the drugs. []'s

PS Viruses self-replicate by injecting themselves into other executables. Almost (but not quite) impossible to do now with signed executables.

Yep. You know when the po-po is knocking for sure.

My favorite knock is when the troop drove a M1 Abram cannon barrel through the palace doors of Hussien's palace. They had air support from A-10 Warthogs.
