Are any brands better than others, say because they create a higher suction to lift the blades of grass, especially those that aren't erect on their own, higher for a better cut?

I just buy the brand that goes with the mower.
While it's comforting to think that the original manufacturer has the best products, all carefully matched to optimize performance, it's far from the truth. (The targeted selling price, for example, can cause compromises in performance. Does GM put the very best tires on its cars?) That's why clever minds in other companies offer improved products.
