Yeah great view of Califonication on the west side :-)
I've been to the lake along the east, maybe outside Carson City. I forget. I can't imagine the land prices today.

Cheap, if I say so.
Taking an all day drive around the lake is common adventure around these pars. Every part of it is stunning in its own way.
Be advised, Tahoe has four seasons:

That beats Vermont -- 9 months of winter and 3 months of damn poor sledding. I lived in the north most of my life but the winter in Vermont was the longest in my life. The lake effect from Champlain didn't help any.
A friend's girlfriend was going to UVM (Burlington) and we went up to their winter carnival. They had unbelievable snow sculptures.
Only been there once. We stayed on the CA side which was rustic and sky lodge like to walk to the NV border with a high rise casino right on the border.
It was mid Sept. and we were going to drive through Yosemite to get to Tahoe but it was snowed in so we came in on the coast through Sacramento and if it were the day before would have been turned back by the snow that required vehicles to have chains.
It is all in the elevation.
