OT. Tesla Recall

The text on their screens is too small in some cases.

A news report I saw mentioned the weight of the EVs compared to petroleum powered vehicles. Road barriers aren't built with the heavier EVs in mind.

Nonsense. Road barriers are designed for typical highway traffic which includes monster pickup trucks, humvees, eighteen-wheelers, cement mixers and propane delivery trucks all of which weigh far more than BEVs.

The actual report is here:

And a humvee weighs as much as the Rivian they used in the test, so gas and electric vehicles have similar weights. And their report doesn't even mention the elephant in the room, box trucks, semi's, fuel trucks, busses, RV's and all the other liquid fueled vehicles using the same roads and the same barriers.

The tesla model 3 weighs half as much as that Rivian truck they used in the test.

More baseless hysteria.

Certainly there are risks associated with disparity in mass between two vehicles in a collision. But that applies to all collisions not just those between IC and BEV vehicles and fixes itself when IC vehicles are replaced by BEV vehicles. Which _must_ happen sometime in the future, regardless of climate change, since there is a limited amount of fossil fuel left.

This article says guardrails were designed for vehicles weighing 5,000 pounds. It also says the heavier EVs do more damage to roads than traditionally powered vehicles.

Not-so-bright-bart link elided.

You need to find better sources, and think for yourself.

Most of the large pickups (and humvees) weigh far more than the most popular EV's. Simple math.

We should ban ALL vehicles over 5000 pounds. No exceptions. No more school busses, no more trucks.

So they tested with a 7000 pound Rivian but never took a look at a 6600 pound Hummer H2. Total curb weights for the 2021 Ford Super Duty can depend on drivetrain, engine type, box size, etc. Curb weight: 5,677 lbs to 7,538 lbs. Ford Expidicion hits 6000# with a couple of bags of groceries.

And 8000# with all seats occupied by "Bubbas"

Did you even _read_ the article?

... conducted the first-of-its-kind crash test of an 3.5 ton EV PICKUP TRUCK[*].

[*] About the same weight as a standard F350 pickup truck.

As I pointed out, 99% of the electric vehicles on the road are not Rivian R1T pickup trucks, they're Tesla Model 3s. The Tesla model 3 is exactly the same weight as a Toyota Camry.

The difference in weight between and electric F150 and a regular F150 is less than 200 pounds.

The 2022 Rivian R1T is hardly representative of _ANY_ BEV, much less most.

A Humvee weighs more (and the military versions are not street legal in a majority of the states).
