OT: properly pack large fragile item for shipment??

Question

Not really a repair question, but I see other OT stuff sometimes plus wasn't sure where to turn. I have a 16" diameter Luminglas disc that I have sold someone and need to pack, but I'm not sure how. If you don't know what Luminglas is, it is a two ply 1/2-3/4" thick glass plate of various diameters (up to 20"). In between the plates, there is a vacuum that is backfilled with a gas so that when electricity passes through it, a nice lightning arc display is created. This is what it looks like:

So it is fairly fragile if shipped. I don't have the original box. If any cracks appear in the glass that cause the gas in the center to escape, the display is ruined.

What's the best way to pack this?

Bubble wrap it and then something to localize it within a sturdy cardboard box. That could be some left over styrofoam around the perimeter or some appropriate pieces of cardboard material and then fill it with styrofoam peanuts. Mark it as fragile. Take pictures of how it's packed and insure it, in case you need to file a claim.

I see others say bubble wrap. That is a good idea, but depending on the value, go another step. Once you have it packed up in the bubble pack and sealed in a carton, take that carton and put it in another allowing a couple of inches gap. That helps in case of a crush or puncture.
