OT online reviews

I used to look at the car reviews at the library. No matter what model or price range they always concluded a Honda Civic was the better choice.

When I knew something about the products they were reviewing I saw they were going for the vanilla safe bet. Like the old saying that nobody ever got fired for buying IBM, they like solid and boring.

I liked Motorcycle Consumer News. They had no advertisements and if something sucked they pulled no punches. They suddenly shut down iirc, after 25 years. No warning, just a notice that this was the final issue. I'm not sure they even told the writers beforehand.

The difference is everybody rode. I never got the impression the CR people actually used the products they reviewed.

Follow the science! As I said in another post if a MCN writer said the new MotoGuzzler 1200 was an uncomfortable piece of shit after riding one for 1000 miles I tended to believe his science.

In the last 20 years I've driven a Geo Metro and three Toyota Yarises. CR pissed on them all.

Note on the yaris: the first one was killed by a kid with a snowplow. I traded the second, a 2011, in on a 2018 last March. The literally aren't making them any more and I got a good deal on the leftover 2018.

According to CR they are under powered, noisy, and uncomfortable, suitable only for city driving. Funny how mine was perfectly happy at 80 mph from here to southern AZ.

I gave up on them 45 years ago. So long I forget the exact circumstances buy I bought an appliance because of a particular feature. Two months later CR did a review and recommended not buying it because of that wasteful feature.
