OT: "Lib" as pejorative

We've all had ample opportunity to evaluate the probable IQ and educational level of those posters who regularly use "Lib" as a pejorative for "Liberal".

From the POV of this Independent, it's always a weakness to systematically bad-mouth anyone whose life philosophy threatens you.* It shows so glaringly --- but I guess that doesn't bother those who are comfortable within their belief system.

*OK, I'll cop to "Mad Dogs" for what was one of the two major American political parties -- now transformed into a support network for an international cabal of oil, banking, and production outsourcing. Yes, I am seriously threatened by them.

Back to Subject:

I just ran across this quotation from a former President who'd probably qualify as an ueber-"Lib" in the belief system of certain posters:

=================

But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people --their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal."

President John F Kennedy

"Lib" isn't any more of a pejorative than is "liberal". Even libs know it's a pejorative, since they now call themselves "progs". They didn't like "socialist" before "lib", either. Round and round they go...

Your a damned liar, old bag.

It's the libs who are uncomfortable with their philosophy. Otherwise they would call themselves what they are; socialists (at least I give Bernie Sanders points of honesty). They won't because they know the people would never put up with it.

I would feel threatened if I woke up with such nightmares, too. Some day you might wake up.

So? The word has the connotation the writer wanted to get across.

Except that by today's standards, JFK was an uber-conservative. You do remember that he slashed taxes, don't you? Then there was that little push to the brink of nuclear war, Bay of Pigs, intervention into Vietnam, and that little Cold War thing. Doesn't sound like a limp-wristed lib-loon to me.

BTW, speaking of pejoratives, why do you use the term "tea baggers"?

I suggest you learn how to fix your leaky toilet because you don't cut it as a philosopher ;)

Good lord, you're stupid beyond belief.

I would assume not. You don't have DemonicRats, either.

...we don't have you.

Well said, krw, exactly what I was thinking. I'd add that I don't see lib as being a pejorative. It's just a shortened version of liberal.

Some words of wisdom:

An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society that scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water.
