Some stores are just trying to save money on their refrigeration bills.

Alternatively, just buy one when you need it. Frozen bread loses moisture and is then only fit for toasting.

And decent bread costs more than 35p per loaf. Better to eat less bread but upgrade to better quality stuff.

The 35p per loaf rubbish is just bird food.

You must live an awful long way from an Aldi (or any supermarket).

Why would anyone buy bread and keep it for a month ?, when you can get it fresh, almost anywhere on any day apart from dec 25th and easter sunday.

In most parts of the western world, it should be possible to buy milk that left the cow in the last 48 to 72 hours.

Why would anyone want to keep milk for 21 days ?. Anyone that does can always buy the sterilised variety.

All UK stores have thermometers on display in their chiller cabinets.

In this case, the EU is not responsible for use not preventing it entering (they may have been slow to warn us of the contamination in the first place though). As soon as we know about contamination, we do have the right to refuse entry on the grounds of public health.

You can get away with it for a few days. I've got some polythene caps for the purpose. (Called Pet Food Can Seal - so bound to be safe.)

Many/most these days are plastic lined. Any sign of the tin being attacked, it goes in the bin..

Are these recyclable, does anyone know?

I don't know where you are but in the US recycling is being exposed as the scam that it is. Since China stopped taking our recycle, most of it ends up in the land fill. We used to put it in the empty shipping containers and send it to China but they say they don't want it anymore either. There are certainly places, real close to a plant that can use scrap plastic and paper that makes sense but trucking trash

The only thing that makes sense to recycle is metal and even steel seems to not be worth the trouble based on the amount that can sit on your curb uncollected by "scrappers".

We should burn the rest in waste to energy plants.

Yes, the high heat melting the metal gets rid of the plastic.

Glass is good but only if you are close to a glass plant. Freight is expensive.

Yup that is why I say metals are the things we should be recycling. The smelting process clears a lot of sins. Things like plastic and paper are ridiculous. They only way they have value is if they are sorted far more discriminately than most people are willing to do. When we were recycling computer paper, before it was cool, the guy would refuse the whole load if he saw anything in there but pure white bond. The same way with "newsprint" or corrugated cardboard. If there are any of those slick ad flyers, beer cartons or plastic in there, they don't want it. Plastic really needs to be sorted by type and cleaned. A lot of types they don't even want. This was too labor intensive for the chinese so you know there is no way it makes any sense here with government union people sorting trash.
