Coldest ever recorded temperatures in the continental U.S.
I know exactly where that sign is... It was -21 last night and warmed up to a balmy -7 today. That's enough of that shit for me. We usually get a couple of cold days in January, not December.
I walked up to the mailbox and it was pretty nippy. To add insult to injury there wasn't any mail.
My mailbox had a flag that would pop up when opened.
You can also sign up for USPS Informed Delivery. No email, no walk to the mailbox. You get a photo of what is in the mail each day.
See! See! See! Demonrat Al Gore warned us about gas-guzzling SUVs and global warming.
Rural people were supposed to raise the mailbox flag if there was mail for the carrier to pick up in my area. He'd just keep going otherwise if there was nothing to drop off for that customer. People could also leave money in the mailbox to purchase stamps. That's been a half century ago, though.
When we moved to the suburbs with a rural mailbox, I was 10 and I thought the mailman raised the red flag when he delivered mail. I think my mother thought that too. She ended up buying a yellow flag with a weight on one end that went down and raised the flag when the door was open.
It was 150' to the mailbox. Not so much, but it's still good to know when the mail has come.
Now I fear the only mail will be court orders and junk mail.
Yes, but this is a different flag, mine was yellow so easily seen from the house. Mine was built in but you can buy them as an add on.
