He happened to die on December 7.

Yeager wasn't eligible to be a pilot when he enlisted. The Air Force got desperate later on so he was okayed to fly. The other thing that got my attention was he broke the sound barrier with a couple broken ribs. He hid that from the military. He would've been grounded otherwise.

He had 20/10 vision. He could spot enemy planes from 50 miles away was reported.

Here's a test for his notoriety : name more than 1 test pilot !

.. being a Canuck I have 2 ...

Chuck and Chris.

John T.

I think some of the astronauts were test pilots first. The only astronaut name that comes to mind off hand is Buzz Aldrin.......... John Glenn, Those guys were household names not so long ago. And I remember only TWO???????????????

John Glenn, Alan Shepard, Neil Armstrong Gordon Cooper There is also a woman, Nicole something that is training for the Boeing Starliner

Yep. Even in Canada Hadfield will not be remembered as a test pilot by many people .. but he was a real good one ! His memoir is a good read ..

RIP Chuck Yeager - you helped fuel many-a-young-lads dreams. John T.

You're right. I can't.

All the early ones.

Now they have namby pamby scientists, who couldn't shoot down another plane in a dogfight if they tried. They have girls, too.

G. Gordon Cooper. No that's probably G. Gordon Liddy. Someone named Cooper. Alan? Shepherd

Darn, I used to know all 7.

Neil Armstrong wasn't in the first 7. Did you know he almost?? ripped his finger off driving his tractor out of the barn. All the way to the moon and back with less injuries than that.

I'm pretty sure the females are all women. Last I checked, there were no girls in the program. By the way, do you think the female astronauts should wear dresses into space? ;-)

That would be good. There would be a lot more astrobabies.
