Most of mine have been coming USPS these days. They even deliver on Sunday.
I asked the driver about it and asked if they were happy to get the OT of if they cursed having to work on Sunday. He liked Sunday as there was better working conditions and extra money.
Yes, 9 months ago or so I got one on Sunday that was in no way a rush order. I'm sure it was the free shipping. He was USPS but he was driving his own car and I don't think he had even a USPS hat on.
I think my guy said it was a part-time job.
And then there're the many packages shipped across country by UPS or Fedex but delivered to the home by the USPS.
You have to admit that the USPS is using innovative ideas in the last few years.
Back in the '90s when I was an OTR driver I loaded Avon in Chicago several times. Sometimes it would go to Avon distributors, sometimes to the PO. One whole load went directly to the PO in Billings. Apparently using a private carrier for the bulk transport and the USPS for the final mile was the most economical solution.
No, my statement was that shipping individually what they said wasn't worth shipping individually had Nothing to do with the functioning of the business, because claiming it wasn't worth shipping indivdually was marketing, merchandising.
That's not what I said.
For the third time, no.
Oh give me a break. Yes, I said it marketing didn't relate to the
*functioning* of the business. Of course it has a relationship to the business -- marketing isn't carried out by unrelated parties, who do it for fun perhaps.
The *functioning* of the business is selling, shipping, and collecting money. You can possibly add buying merchandise and paying for it, though I think much of the stuff is consigned to them, not sold.
OTOH, marketing is a way to increase sales but it's not part of the functioning.
If you can think of a better word than functioning for what I was clearly saying, let me know what it is.
If you want to bicker some more, go ahead but realize you're just bickering about that word.
That's why I said "iirc". I haven't been under 49 for a long time, so I wasn't sure.
That's not the same as going toward the $49 but you did say that it did that earlier. I'm glad you set the record straight on that.
I tested both and it really helps if you extend the search phrase with some thing like "under $10?.
If you don't, the results don't really fit the "get me to $49" criteria, un less you consider a $524 pen or $2100 monitor to be a filler/add-on item. ;-)
Finally. That was the one and only point that I was trying to make. You posted 2 very short comments that could *only* be taken for what they said. I responded to what you *said* because I had no way of knowing what you *meant*.
Words on monitor. That's all I had to work with. If you had simply admitted that you worded it badly in your first response, you wouldn't have had to waste all your time explaining points that I wasn't even arguing about.
100% correct and that was all I was responding to from the very start. It was you that took it down the rat hole, until now.
Jeff would be OK with that. As I said up near the top of this thread, it is just a way to keep you shopping and get you in the habit of buying stuff from Amazon.
I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon, but I also check prices elsewhere. Amazon comes out ahead 90% of the time. My wife bought me a watch though, and it was cheaper from other sources, Never buy from a typical jewellery store.
I also have to wonder how long some mall stores will last. Jonashop $187 Amazon $278 Jet.com $218 Zales, on line or in store $375
Same with me. Often times the right side panel on the main Amazon page for an item contains a better deal. I'll shop around, but I also consider how confident I am in the seller. It's probably dumb, but sometimes my gut tells me to spend a little more if the cheaper website or ordering process doesn't instill confidence.
Of course, with a Zales or similar you get personal service and face-to-fac e interaction if there is a problem. How much that's worth, especially on a delicate, expens ive item, is up to the individual.
Not to me. Maybe $20 for the personal service, adjust band, and take it home today. Certainly not $190 unless it is delivered with very personal service.
