Some common items we have now that were invented at least partly by accident. The first one is the microwave oven.

The effect was certainly known and it's surprising he didn't notice his large muscles were getting warm if the magnetron was leaking that badly.
A company I worked for made industrial heaters that ran at about 100 MHz. They also made some large microwaves that were used by local restaurants but completely ignored the consumer market.
People in factories learned that RF heaters could warm up their sandwiches long before there were microwaves on every counter top.
People working with microwaves in the early days also found that squinting down a waveguide to line it up isn't a great idea even at very low power.
