Hi All,I've replaced several valves (standard shutoff) over the years, the ones youturn several times, to open/close. There may be proper name for them, but Ido not know.It seems to be hit/miss proposition for me. Some of them leak at the shaft,after installing.I suspect the reason is that the rubber gasket gets cooked during theheating process. Many valves have a rubber parts in two places, one wherethey close the flow and another around the shaft.How do you guys manage to get the valve installed without overheating therubber parts inside? I would suggest that you correct your water problem(s). The valve is just a symptom how about the insides of other areas?

gate valves are very prone to not shutting off completely after they have been sitting a while.Every time I can I replace gate valves with ball valves or in the case of larger valves a butterfly valve is preffered.

I had already replaced about 90% of the plumbing I just hadn't replaced the valves going into the burner. Now that is done. I'll be able to "readress" as necessary in another 40 or so years. :)
