Need to Replace Unbranded Remote for Lamp Switch

I saw, I even had, a remote where you could shine your source remote into the learning remote and it would learn. I was planning on combining one or two well known devices with an obscure one that wasn't listed on any of the instructions that come with remotes. But it wasn't urgent and by the time I looked for the thing, I couldn't find it. I don't remember the brand. But I just used the words you're looking for, Learning Remote. Well, they should have been but there's a broad range of use for that term, I see. I'll look some more. I want one too.

And I've looked a little since then and not seen one, but only looked a bit.

This one says " If a device is not found you can quickly program those functions with the remote’s intuitive learning capability." I wonder what that means. Not what I had, I'm pretty sure.

I can't tell if those are 315MHz IR remotes. And both of them seem designed for multimedia tasks whereas I wanted something simpler to use as an on/off lamp switch for 2 lamps. Something more like the following Universal Clone Remote (if its operation meets my needs).

There are remote control power outlets (i.e., boxes that plug into the wall and have another, switched outlet, sticking out the other side) aplenty.

You can get a pre-pack with three individually switched outlets plus two remotes for, more or less, $25.

Yes, but my current setup allows me to turn all devices on/off individually, or all on/off at once. I'd be OK with all on/off at once.

That sounds like a good option although my setup was about half that. Any example links will be appreciated.

Best option is to go to a good harware store, or one of the Big Box places.

I've seen supplies of these at Lowes, Home Depot, WalMart, local hardware stores, etc.

I'm thinking that this might be along the line of what you're referring to at Menard's. If the remote control battery lasts long enough then it looks like a good solution at $14.99. Don't like the thought of having to dump my all current setup though.

If you unplug some tv's they forget things you've told them. I would test anything you plan to connect to one of these by unplugging it for a few hours and seeing how well it starts up again.

Also, when plugged in, not every device will be on. If not, you'd still need the remote to turn it on. Lamps are probably an exception to this, but maybe not, esp. if there are more settings than on and off.
