All the time Throw away anything that is addressed to "customer" or simply your Email address. That comes from a bot. If it is really for you they will have your real name and maybe even your address. Even then I will delete the email and log on to their site directly. If there is really an offer or an issue, it will be there too. Type in the address that you know is right, don't click on any links in Email. They can make one that looks so real that you believe it, even from the browser popup.

I have a hard-to-guess email I use for banks, investments, Amazon, IRS and SS and a second address I use for friends and family. These are checked at least 2x/day.

The third address I use with companies I suspect will share my email address with their shyster "marketing partners" like FecesBook and Twatter.  This account is checked whenever I'm expecting an email from one of them.

I mmeant have any of you gotten these very "offer"s, that claimed to provide money to your existing account, especially if it was attributed to Amazon or Walmart.

This might have been a good plan. Too late for me now, without a whole lot of effort.

FWIW, though I forget and there might have been a chance to avoid them, and indeed I get very little spam so I must have, Bank of America has partners too, and I either did, or was almost tricked into signing up for something that would have exposed me to them. It sounded very good and until then, I thought a bank wouldn't do me dirty. So I thought they would all have bank of amaerica in their name, or something similar, but they didn't, and there were iirc thousands of them. I suspect the other banks have it too.

Beyond that, isn't there a problem that various companies have had their records hacked, even when credit card numbers are not collected, so that email addresses with the corresponding names *are* collected, so that phishing is addressed to the person at any such address and by name?
