I certainly don't disagree. When I was working I was often fixing stuff on the owner's computer that he screwed up.

When visiting my friend in NJ a few weeks ago, same thing. She has made a lot of money trading stocks and such but I had to show her the simplest things on her computer. I set up her email account 25 years ago and I don't think she has deleted any since. I got rid of 5000 for her.

Biden does fine with computers, every once in a while we see him post something on Donnies favorite platform, Twitter. Of course when Biden posts we don't see the addled writing of a 4th grader that can't spell even simple words like coffee (that's even with the help of a spell checker). I think that may go for many, if not most, of Congress and the other two branches. It's worrisome that they legislate matters in which they have no expertise. That goes beyond computer related issues. Supposedly they can call upon those who do have the expertise but how can they evaluate the supposed experts?

This is not to say that I think a technological society is a good thing. Ellul, Heidegger, Sale, Vonnegut, and others have pointed out the dangers.

Technology can be a wonderful thing. What scares me it how much damage a hacker can potentially do. It is on the news all the time with the more simple stuff like credit car info and passwords butthey can also do some terrible damage getting ontothe wrong places.

Many, if not most, irrigation systems would run fine without help from the outside if there is electrical power for them and/or fuel for the engines powering the wells and generators supplying the electrical power. The newer ones rely on gps to control the endguns and the newer corner arms steer by gps. The endgun issue could be fixed easily by adding mechanical controls for them. The gps guided corner arms would most likely be disconnected at least temporarily. Also, the farmer would have to drive out to the fields to check on the pivots to be sure they're running. Farmers can use their smart phones to operate them now. The other thing that comes to mind is planting crops. It doesn't seem like that long ago that planters had markers on them to make a line for the farmer to follow on the next pass. Waving at a farmer when he was planting was a waste of effort. He wouldn't see you because he was staring at that line. They might not wave now because they're watching youtube.

My dad probably retired from farming in the early 1980s. He thought he had something to talk about when his irrigated corn hit 197 bu/acre. I mentioned that to a farmer recently. He chuckled and said they raise that on dryland now.
