inglis direct drive washer grinds and doesn t spin

**i have an inglis heavy duty super capacity washer ...it has started a grinding sound , it doesn t spin as it is supposed to .. it goes a couple inches hesitates and goes again and hesitates and goes again . have changed the motor coupling already as it was broken . i need to know where to check next ... likke take the transmission of .. open and look for what ? or take the clutch out and put back in .... the clutch is still pretty firm to move ... please help...thanks
