Home Depot "Renovations" windows cost question

Hi, I just had a Home Depot Services person come out and quote us prices to replace 9 windows in our house with the Home Depot Renovations 6500 (made by Simonton). I used to work in a window factory in high school years ago, but these seem like very good windows to me. Much better than the contractor specials that are in our house now. The quote for the 9 windows, including removal of the old windows, prep for the new ones and install of the new ones was about $6500.

This seems high to me. Obviously I should get another quote, but does anyone else have any recent experience with Home Depot and their install services? I am in the Seattle area.

Home Depot quoted me a price of $9,000 last fall to redo my roof. They said the price would go up if I waited until spring. This spring I got quotes from 4 more roofers. All were below $5,000. I just paid the bill of $4,300 which included replacing some facia and some siding.

I buy from home depot (1/2 mile from my house) but I wouldnt have them do any work. They seem very expensive.

We were going to buy a garage door from Home Depot and get them to install it (with opener). We got their quote, then called around to local places, and ended up paying 2/3 the price with a local company.

We later found out that Home Depot gets a bunch of the local companies to do their installs, so they have to pay the company their rate and make some money for themselves (thus higher price for customer). Not sure if that's how it works for the Home Depot in your area.

In our area (long island) there is one co that does most of HD work. I did a job for a person who works in the kitchen cabinet dep. She told me she is reluctant to recomend HD to do the install work due to the problems that they have had with the instalation from this sub. Every once and a while we get a phone call from some one she has sent our way. In the intrest of customer service she recomends us over her own Co. Regards Gary
