Dishwasher

My Kitchen Aid dishwasher fills with water and as it is about to go into the wash cycle it hums as if the motor is trying to engage. The humming stops briefly and then as the motor tries to engage again it again hums.

Any idea as to what the problem might be?

Thanks

Most of the time the reason a device hums is...it doesn't know the words.

Actually, the motor is humming because it can't turn. A very common problem (seriously) is something jammed in the pump, located in the base of the tub. Are you missing a fork or have you broken a glass recently, letting a small fragment fall into the impeller. Something to check out.

Hi,

No model# posted to know what style KA dishwasher.

Could be a bad motor, bad motor relay, broken wire, jammed motor & pump assy. Removing the spray arm and pump cover and have a peek inside for any foreign objects is often a good idea. Proper power to the motor and no go often is a sign of a bad or jammed up motor.

The motor is shutting off on it's built in safety/thermal switch.

Not a great week -- water leading from inside Kitchen Aid dishwasher door. Is this a repair for amateurs?

Depends on what is leaking. Worn seal or gasket? Door corroded?

It could be as simple as changing your deterget or tightening the screws that go through the clips that attatch to the counter top.
