crosley fridge

Whats the general oppinion of Crosley fridges......they claim to be made by fridigidair. I like the 10 year compressor warranty, everyone else has a 1 yr. warranty.

Todays date is 8/22/2011 and a purchase will be made within the week.

thank you to all.

I never heard of Crosley, but I can tell you that most refrigerators have warranties on the compressor that is a lot longer than 1 year.

This Crosley is nothing but a front buying/marketing organization for independent dealers...who builds the given product isn't told on the website that I saw anyway...

"Formed in 1976 in Winston-Salem, NC, the Crosley Corporation consists of a group of independently owned distributors who resurrected the Crosley trade name and introduced a line of ... appliances. ...

Crosley Corporation was established as a non-profit organization to help independent distributors and retailers compete in today's marketplace with quality appliances at affordable prices.

Crosley brand appliances are manufactured by world class corporations and are built to Crosley specifications. ... "

Ya' pays your money and takes your chances. If you can find out who's building a given product, your only hope will be to base judgment on that manufacturer's reputation for the given product but even that is quite iffy as one doesn't know what Crosely has done to meet their price points.

The compressor warranty is longer; used to be everybody had at least 5 on the compressors but they're backing off on a lot of them. Note that it probably is the compressor itself only; no labor and may be restrictive even within that guideline to limit the number that actually qualify. But, a good compressor ought to last that long and double easily anyway. Some don't, of course...ya' pays your money and takes yer chances... :)

Frigidaire makes the same units for a bunch of brand names. I've been in their plants and watched them go down the line and get different name plates and cartons. Crosly is the name of an old appliance maker from decades ago.

The warranty is above average though, but it does not include labor. It does not include freight in either direction. One some parts, it is probably cheaper just to have it fixed yourself.
