dishwasher console (switches and ribbon cable) went out and i replaced it in about 5 minutes...just curious if i saved any money vs a service call...

Probably. Most service calls are minimum of $70 to $100 for labor even if it is only a 5 minute job
how much did you pay for the console????
console cost $100.
Then you certainly didn't pay too much compared to a service call and maybe you can save the console for parts if the replacement ever goes out, plus you learned some new things that would have cost you $$$ if you could even find a class that taught such things.
