I can't see anyone being fooled by that s*it. If anything it looks MORE expensive because of all the nines. To me though, I just get irritated at having to stop and think "they mean $3."

We used to sell things by catalogue with .99 on the end, but the customers were pissed off at having to add them all up on the order forms (and they often got them wrong, and occasionally some bugger would actually want the penny change!). So we made them round numbers.

well here we have produce scales all over the produce area. How can they sell something by weight and not provide a close by scale? Must be a metric thing!

do all bags weigh the same? Are all oranges that uniform according to EU regs? What happens to the non uniform but highly desirable oranges? Must be some EU reg for that.

Because you know how much/many oranges you want by what they look like. = I have no idea what 3kg of oranges would look like. I just know I want= a bag full. But when there are several species of orange, it's nice to= be able to easily see which is cheaper, and by how much.

And would you really want your customers all weighing everything just to= check? They'd get bruised!

The oranges are not uniform, but a law was introduced that supermarkets = have to have =A3/kg etc on the shelves so you can compare prices of diff= erent brands. Trouble is, you get pence per 100g, =A3 per kg, =A3 each,= =A3 per litre, etc, etc.

I'm like that too. There's some reason for using those fat round nines. This also happens here where gasoline prices are in mills. The last I bought had of a price of $2.119 per gallon (always the fat nine at the end). I know someone who calls this $2.11 .I'm too honest for that and have to call it $2.12 which is much closer.

There's a few places here where the prices are regular, but most use the fat nines.

There's a lot of things I can't see people fooled by - until I find that most are.

BTW, the nines I write by hand don't look nearly as fat.

All my numbers are equal in size. Very low intelligence people write big numbers.

I wonder how much they make when they round up everyone's bill. I mean I presume you don't have 0.1 cent coins?

I've heard, and I don't know how this works, that you can fiddle your business's taxes slightly by charging 0.99c for stuff.

I've never heard of this fat business, same font for the nines as everything else here. Show me a photo.

I was with Talktalk for precisely one week. A very attractive teenage girl came to my door and told me it was half price line rental. So I took her up on it. A week later I found out it wasn't half price. I phoned up and used many many swearwords, and changed provider again.

Yes, and income tax would also be fair. And less paperwork than calculating it on every single thing you buy.

The other problem with so many taxes is the cost of the paperwork.

I'm self employed and have to fill in precisely TWO figures. Income. Expenditure. That's all. Sometimes if they think someone is filling them in oddly, they'll ask to check stuff, then you just hand them a huge pile of receipts and say, "you add it up".

Now they probably do not make that much. The gas was at one time much profit as when the gas was about $ 0.20 a gallon or less. That was what ? around 2% more.
