Per joevan:
I'd like to know what kind of cameras Cabella's use - they must be pretty high quality to catch the described behavior.

OMG! How funny! A story about a NJ State Trooper being arrested for shoplifting gun supplies and other merchandise has a huge picture of Governor Christie on the web page. Killer Loon, you are such an idiot! ROTFLMAO "...arrested on gun thief". Was the state trooper standing on top of or sitting on a gun thief? You P.L.L.C.F. are so fracking brain damaged proving once again that Liberalism is a mental disorder. Any of you P.L.L.C.F. reading the story are so that when you see sentence that is written: "gun supplies", your damaged brain sees: "supplies of guns" which is so funny. Keep em coming Killer Loon. ^_^

"Dufas" is actually a proper family surname for some people found in France and in Germany. The correct word to use to describe an idiot is, "doofus or dufus", which is a good description of Killer Loon. ^_^

Most modern in-store surveillance is now done with HD cameras, often equipped with powerful optical zooms. The resolution is in the megapixel range, about 16MP IIRC.
shows the difference between analog CIF format CCTV and HD digital images.
I am sure the images they recorded of Christie's body guard are more than enough to ID him conclusively and show exactly what he was doing.

Per Robert Green:
I wasn't doubting that they got a good ID.... just lusting after such a camera.
Somebody in a Yacht club near Atlantic City managed to get a deal on a camera that was used by one of the casinos that, for, for some reason, deemed unsuitable (by the Gaming Commission?). That thing is baaaaad!... About 32x zoom, pan, tilt, autofocus... and probably $3K+...

Here's a link to a supplier I used for surveillance systems when I was working and able to climb ladders. They stock all sorts of cameras at all prices. ^_^

Yes, Las Vegas and AC are great sources for cheap, used CCTV stuff. I also got some tremendous deals on Panasonic analog PTZ cams and 16 channel MUXes that came out of WalMart stores when they switched from analog to digital. A $500 MUX could be had for $50 - that's my kind of bargain.
You can actually pick up brand new external PTZ cams now for a little over $200 that include heaters and fans and lots of other features. I've been using one for several years now and it's been quite useful. It's way slower than the Panasonic PTZ which can spin 360 degrees in less than half a second. The cheaper cams I use take several seconds to rotate completely and they stand out a lot more than the Panasonics that cost nearly 10 times as much.
With a little carpentry, you can mount the Panny under a soffit with only a three inch hemispherical mirrored lens showing. On the other hand, the cheaper PTZ cams look like a pretty big hornet's nests. The Panny's are incredibly dense, electronically-speaking. It's amazing how many gears, motors and circuit boards they can cram into a space no bigger than a tall soup can.
I got some smaller PT only (no zoom) cams for about $100 from Amazon and a PTZ controller that lets me control the cameras with my universal TV remote.
I recently bought a whole package of HD cams and an 8 channel HD recorder that's scheduled for installation this spring. The problem with HD video is that it's so expensive to pipe around the house compared to analog TV signals. Ironically even though I will be recording in HD, the signal will be converted to analog to pipe throughout the house. I'll connect the HDMI output of the CCTV DVR to the 32" LED TV for detailed analysis, though.
