I saw an ad for a Chimney Sweeping Log that supposedly cleans cresote
from your chimney without touching it. Has anyone tried these? Could

I have never used these, but saw some local news troubleshooter talk
about them for a few minutes after testing a couple different ones. He
concluded that they don't work very well and that the real way to clean
your chimney is to have a chimney sweep do it. I think he also
mentioned that if you don't already have a spark arrestor on top of the
chimney you could buy one and some chimney sweeps will install it for
Actually, I've found that by mounting the log to a long pole, climbing
on the roof and vigorously scraping the sides of the chimney with it -
they do a marvelous job.
You will need about 50 of the logs though, as they tend to fall apart
