Cheap STurdy bookshelves

Leaving behind spindle-screw diy (1960s,1970s) bookshelves which held thousands of books, but taking the books. Wondering how to get cheapest bookshelves that will last just as long (half century).

Looking at interlocking planks like

But I really want the same old screw-together kits we got from lumber yard back when.

Can't find them anywhere. Buut in the end hey got pretty expensive.

Other ideas?

Steel utility shelving. It isn't pretty but it's relatively cheap compared to most wooden shelving. It doesn't sag like the old particle board type pictured.

I have my homemade shelves that I have been using for over half a century. They are made of 1"X6" planks. I started with

6 foot planks. 2 planks make the sides and others are cut in 2 to make 3 foot shelves. I just screw through the side planks into the ends of the 3 foot planks. I use narrow strips of cheap paneling, maybe 2 inches wide, across the back fastened to the uprights and to the shelves to act as back stops. Actually I started with nails instead of screws and those are still working fine after 50 years or so. If your books are larger you can just use wider planks.

Kinda my backup plan. Get fifty 8'x18" planks, with a notch slot cut halfway thru every 18". Attach them to the stud. I'm going to need a carpenter/handyman when I move in for several projects (garage roof, HVAC vents, floor drains, laundry chute/dumbwaiter, shelving) so will try to synergise them to keep my budget.

Good luck with 8' x 18" planks that don't look like a corkscrew. Bring plenty of money.
