Busted jigsaw motor - fixable?

I haven't read all the replies but he stated he had a shorted coil. Wouldn't he have to undercut the commutator or at least scrape out the safarcous to tell?

I am not familiar with Mexican quality. Is it as s*it as Chinese?

And depending on the supplier it sport about a 75% failure rate. Could have asked the price prior to authorizing the repair.

I would check the tension on the belts. Sounds like it's too high; which will cause this problem. Wasn't a Leece Neville was it?

utator and perhaps sand the end of the brushes a bit, not a lot, just ge= t the glaze off of them. I've extended the life of a lot of universal mo= tors in such a manner. ^_^

I looked up a wiring diagram and that kind of motor apparently has each = coil connected between neighbouring contacts on the commutator. Not the= way I expected, I always thought they'd be at 180 degrees to each other= , but apparently the brushes always connect several coils in series. So= I tested every neighbouring pair with an ohmeter, and one pair was 10 t= imes less resistance, so I disconnected it.

Now I've just had a thought - I've done something daft haven't I? If on= e coil is disconnected, then the series of them is also disconnected, wh= ich explains the rough running of it still - it's only conducting in the= other half? When I take it apart to think about changing the brushes, = I'll do more resistance tests between the brushes at various points in t= he rotation.

However, if all I had was 1 shorted coil, and there's always 12 in serie= s, why would that bother the motor in the first place?

People who design power tools are idiots. They never provide enough cooling for the motor. I sent a brush cutter back after 3 weeks because the motor burnt out with 30 minutes use.
