Having a problem with our furnace. It will run and heat the house as long as I have the fan set to auto. If I don't have it set there the fan will n ot come on at all and no heat. Believe it is a common issue but not sure w hat part I should start looking at to fix the issue.

If you figure out which wires to short, to can eliminate the thermostat.

What are the other choices, besides "auto"? Normally "on" would be choice, which should just put the fan on continously. Auto is the normal fan position. What happens when it's set there or any other positions? Did this work previously and it's a new problem? One thing I can tell you is that I don't think it's a common problem.
