A question to plumbers: (2025 Update)

It has been getting worse and worse for the past several years, and lately about half of the toilet water supply connectors that I buy are either leaking or start leaking after just a couple of years. Is it just me or are you also experiencing the same problem?

Wide slotted screw driver. They only have to be snug to work. I like the Kohler slow close seats.

Got tired of re-tightening those plastic bolts every month. No matter what was used, the slots wore out :-(

Replaced them with brass ones :-)

You hold the slotted side with anything long and straight and tighten the nut below.

Then getcha one of those fancy removable toilet seats.

Under tension, materials creep, i.e. elongate. Metal creep is slight but plastic far worse. You either have to put up with plastic creeping and needing tightening or metal corroding to the point it breaks or if you need to get it off you may need a hacksaw.

OP seems to be concerned about connection of water line to toilet. Usually not a lot of stress there unless the connection is metal pipe and gets stressed by toilet jiggling around a bit.
