tacky wall paper

Jun 21, 2007 6 Replies

hi all, just after some info

i had my chimney breast platerboarded and skimmed and living room celing skimmed about 5 weeks ago

i let it dry for 4 weeks, it was a light pink all over, i then sized the chimney breast with wallpaper size and let that dry and soak in, then papered the wall, i left the wall paper for 2 days and then painted the whole room with white emulsion, inc celing

that was over 1 week ago, every wall and the new celing is dry but the chimney breast is tacky, not wet but tacky to touch any info would be much appreciated

cheers

You said you "papered the wall" did that include the chimney breast? If you've painted directly onto chimney breast after coating it with wallpaper size then this is the problem. Infact, even if you did paper the chimney breast, it is most likely to be the problem anyway! Since it is the only real difference to what you did in the rest of the room.

As to sorting the problem, another coat of paint may do it. Try in a small area just to see. If not then you may have to put some sealer on there to fix things down before re-painting.

Why did you not just seal the plaster and then paint straight onto the plaster, instead of papering the wall and painting that.

because the whole room is papered so it was to match the rest of the room as the breast used to be just red brick

Has it dried ok yet?

no. still tacky but not as bad, off to spain this weekend for 2 weeks so will see what its like when i get back
