Help with Fridge Lamp

Sep 09, 2005 8 Replies

Hi,

My friend has one of these American style fridge / freezers (Whirlpool) and the lamp has gone. They are quoting about 16 quid to replace it. It is a 40w

250v ES27 lamp made by Sylvania and has the word "Appliance" printed on it. I want to know if there is something special about these as there are other lamps with the same specs for about a quid. Is there anything stopping her using one of these ?

Thanks in advance,

Graham.

P.S the lamp is at the bottom of this page :

only that they like the cold better, but not 16 times as much go for a quid one and one for spare

Its nothing to do with the cold, they are rough duty lamps to cope with shock and vibration.

Thanks. Do you still think it's worth trying the standard ones ?

I hate ripoff trades people but to be honest £16 for a visit and something done, even a three minute job isn't bad!

On the other hand you will get a load of bulbs for £16, and if you have to change one a quarter........?

Not bad is an understatement the company I work for charges £65 + parts + vat !!

£16 is the cost of the lamp. Not for somebody to come out and do it :-)

Graham.

oh! /me thick!

ROBBERY IN PROGRESS!!!!!!!!
