Removing Asbestos

Sep 22, 2005 6 Replies

A friend has a house whose heating pipes in the cellar are insulated with asbestos. Would it be expensive to remove the insulation from the pipes, and should it be removed?

Thank you

Yes, and yes. If the asbestos is not friable it can be left undisturbed or encapsulated. In the event of a fire or explosion, the fibers may become airborne. Asbestos can be particularly hazardous to tobacco smokers.
