We redid our kitchen about six months ago and installed a new pull-out faucet, but I'm having the strangest issue with the aerator. Every single month, the water starts spraying in random directions beacuse the very last plastic screen gets filled with this transparent, jelly-like slime. It's super annoying to clean out because it's so thick and sticky. What's driving me crazy is that we only moved from one floor to another in the same building, and we never had this problem in the old apartment. I checked the internal parts of the faucet and the earlier filter layers, and they are totally spotless. It's only the final honeycomb part that gets hit. If it was a pipe issue or hard water, wouldn't the first filters catch it? I'm stumped why it's only happening on this specific new sink or if it's some kind of wierd bacterial growth. Does anyone have any clue what coud be causing this buildup?

That jelly-like substance is almost always a **biofilm** or a concentration of silica. Since you mentioned it's only on the final honeycomb part and not the internal screens, that's a huge clue. It means the "seed" for this growth or accumulation is happening at the point of aeration where the water meets the atmosphere, or it's a material breakdown happening inside the faucet's own pull-out hose. If it’s truly clear and sticky, check your water heater. If the dip tube—the plastic pipe that carries cold water to the bottom of the tank—is starting to disintegrate, it can send a translucent, gel-like slurry trough your hot water lines. You wouldn't have seen this in your old place if that unit had a newer or diffrent type of tank. Even though you're in the same building, different units often have their own heaters or different plumbing runs that might be older or sitting stagnant longer.
Another possibility is that the new faucet has some residual manufacturing lubricant inside the pull-out hose. Bacteria love that stuff. The reason the earlier, finer filters are clean is becuase the gunk is forming after those points. The honeycomb structure at the very end creates the perfect low-velocity enviornment for that slime to anchor and grow every time the water stops flowing.
You shoud try soaking the aerator in a strong **bleach solution** rather than just vinegar. Vinegar is great for mineral scale, but if this is organic growth, you need to kill the colony. Also, try running your hot water at full blast for about ten minutes without the aerator attached to flush out any potential dip tube debris or assembly oils. If it keeps coming back after a deep sanitize, the issue is likely upstream in your water heater’s sacrificial anode or dip tube.
I actualy had something similar happen with a pull-out spray head, and I realized it only started after I switched to a specific 'eco-friendly' dish soap. Do you think the soap fumes or splashes could be feeding whatever is growing on that screen? Since it's a pull-out, it sits pretty close to the sink basin where all the bubbles are.
Also, is the hose on your new faucet braided nylon or metal? I’m wondering if the hose material itself is reacting with the building's water chemistry in a wierd way that your old faucet didn't. It's so strange that it's only on the very last screen!
I'd look at the O-rings or the internal lining of that pull-out hose. Some of those cheaper braided hoses use a liner that doesn't play nice with high chloramine levels in city water, causing the material to degrade into a snot-like consistency. It looks exactly like what you're describing. If it's not the hose material, check if your water heater is set too low. If you're below 140°F (or at least 120°F), you're basially running a petri dish. Bacteria loves those lukewarm temps, and a new faucet provides plenty of surface area for a colony to anchor.
