Yes, it's a bit old, but really cools the house efficiently and quietly. The outside GE unit is a bit loud, sounds like it's coming from the below parts (not the fan above). It's a constant humming, but loud. If it works well, I'd rather not need to replace it. Any ideas?

It is probably the compressor making the noise. Check the hold down bolts and see if they have rubber mounts that are worn out. You can buy a insulation pad for the compressor to help some, however, I doubt you will be to quiet it down very much. If it is working properly I would not replace it just because of the noise.
