Washing Machine Woes

The culprit: Indesit 823 about 5yrs old at a guess.

The problem: The programme dial need nudging 3 or 4 times during a wash cycle. That is, it will carry on washing and swishing etc., then stop. A little tweak on the dial and off it goes again. Is it a fault or (quite likely) user error? It's driving me nuts whichever it is.

Description of controls:

A large numbered dial for setting the programme. Another dial for temp. Then 3 vertically stacked buttons. Top one is [On/Off] Next one is [1/2] and the bottom one [400/800]

Does it need fixing or do I need to go on a course in using it?

Thanks

Hi Mark,

On the back of the timer unit you should see little flat motors held on with metal clips. Be very careful. Switch the power off to the machine. Unclip one at a time leaving the wires connected to the timer and lay them on top of the timer so that they don't touch anything else. Switch the power on to the machine and put it on a low temperature wash setting. Slowly click the timer around to each part of the wash cycle and watch to see which motor isn't doing its job, i.e. not turning. Go to your nearest appliance repair shop and buy a new one. Take it home and follow the where the wires go on the timer and replace it.

This could be caused by any number of things, a water valve, the heater the timer motor or even a sticking timer. does it stop in the same place every time?
