Roof & Gutter Sealant - Drying Time

Hi. I've just used some Wickes Roof and gutter sealant. How long does it take to dry?

Thanks.

If its the horrid black sticky gets everwhere stuff - never. Its meant to remain flexible.

Thanks Med. I've made an interim repair to the foot of my soil pipe. I didn't fancy knocking out the concrete that lay flush to the rim of the clay underground whatever its called. The pipe was less than a quarter of an inch from the clay opening so I couldn't slip the adaptor under it. I cut a piece of a rubber adaptor with pipe clip and cut thru the side then assembled it around the pipe. I mixed up some araldite and smeared it on the clay. Pushed the piece of rubber adaptor down, tightened up the pipe clip. Then I smeared on the black crap coz I can't find the sealant gun.

So as the black crap won't actually 'dry'. will it be ok to lay on mortar collar using Sika quick drying mortar?

You didn't say it was a 'mastic' type of compound - so it will probably dry rather quickly if you have spread it thinly on the pipe that you are sealing - may not last too long though in that situation!

This stuff is usually designed to be applied with a minimum bead thickness (around 6mm) so that it forms a 'skin' on the outside but remains flexible under that 'skin' (to keep the seal water tight under during and movement) - and the 'skin' will usually form well within the hour.

By the way, don't "eat [your] feckin shorts", recycle them and use 'em to wipe the sealant off your hands. :-)

I presume this is another bitumen in paraffin type compound. On top of a roof with sun beating down these congeal and go rubbery in an afternoon. If its not sun cooked it could take somewhere vaguely in the region of 2 days.
