Pop Up Waste Questions

Hi all

Another handbasin Q.

Along with a new basin, I have bought a pop-up style chrome waste outlet. The lower "nut" for securing the outlet is more like a threaded sleave with an internal shoulder. So the threaded part to which the trap will fit is an extension of the sleave, not simply an extension of the screwed waste portion passing through the basin outlet IYSWIM.

Two issues which occur to me:

1 The retaining screwed sleave only has a short threaded portion for attachment of the trap - is this usual? Looks like there is not enough thread to take the plastic nut and secure the trap. Is a special type of trap, or trap connection required with these outlet types?

2 The threaded sleave appears to bottom out before the waste has clamped into the basin. There are some thick plastic gaskety-seal sort of things included (to seal between outlet and basin both inside and out), but is it usual to have to add packing washers to ensure a tight joint?

TIA

Phil

Is this a ceramic basin? Is this waste specifically for this basin or for basins in general?
