Oven recommendation

I know this isn't Mumsnet but,

Another oven has packed in. Current one seems to have suffered from the knobs & buttons getting too hot as the door doesn't close very tightly. And all the markings had worn off which rendered the timer largely useless

Can't decide whether to stick to my usual strategy of buy cheap, buy often. It's only 4 screws to fit it into the carcass.

Is anything built well enough these days that one could expect more then a few years out of it.

There seems to be a choice of ovens at circa £100 but I have a bit of a hard on for a Bosch touchscreen one with pyrolytic cleaning (does that work) at about £600 .

Does anyone out there love/hate their oven, if so what have you got?

I'd like a tightly fitting well sealed door, a nice clear view inside, and a bit of longevity.

Yes, pyrolitic works very well.

We certainly like (love, maybe) our Creda Reflections oven, it's served us well since 2001 or so. It's had a few replacement elements but that's all.

We got the top end model (about £1000) which seems to have bells and whistles! Excellent built quality, works very well. But we've only had it a few months. SWMBO is totally won over, despite the cost.

The only niggle is the lack of a handle for the grill pan. Aftermarket ones are available.

We had a pyrolytic oven. Waste of time, as you have to take the shelves out first. Then the pyrolytic cleans the walls and roof of the oven, but they are the easy bit.

Some fancy make, that was a POS. Ah, I remember, De Dietrich. We bought three appliances from them. All of them broke quite fast.

I replaced it with a much cheaper Bosch one that lasted for quite a bit, but then the electronic display conked out, and I replaced it with another Bosch for around £200-ish that so far is still working.

If you want something that lasts, get an old one. Might need a good clean u p.

Earlier this year I saw a 1930s oven for sale. I just wished I had somewher e to put it.

I think we have had our Creda Solar Plus for 25 years. It is a double oven mounted at a sensible hight so you can see the grill and get things in and out without bending down. The main oven is fan assisted and the top oven also has a grill, which allows use of one side for small items.

I second that, although it doesn't do the shelves and side supports, which you need to remove. It does smell a bit but we leave it going overnight ( also takes advantage of economy 7) so we don't really notice.

We have an AEG fan oven with pyro cleaning and find it very good. In general, we've not been too impressed with AEG appliances (they were fitted as part of a new kitchen about 7 years back) but the main oven and induction hob are the exceptions. The other items, a second combi oven, dishwasher, freezer, fridge have all had issues.

Very similar layout to ours, probably basically the same innards with different cosmetics.

We had a Creda with similar features.

Heating element packed up once, but apart from that it was fine.

The fast heat grill with the ability to only heat one side was the reason we bought it.

Left it behind when we moved house.

The current oven is Lamona badged from Howdens so gawd knows who make it. Works O.K., though.

Cheers
