Do PV panels manufacture the very expensive battery replacements? Hint: rechargeable batteries don't last forever, and the car is much more expensive to buy in the first place. Work out how much you spend on petrol a year, then work out how long it would take to save you enough money to pay the extra for the car in the first place. I did so, and found it's about the same. It's just as cheap to buy a cheaper petrol or diesel car, then pay extra for the fuel.

The cost of batteries has fallen. A bit. Some cars have industry standard batteries which are cheaper. There are now third party battery repairers that break them down and replac e dud cells. Apparently the new Nissan leaf batteries are good for 100,000 miles.
