Filling nail holes in pine door

I've had an original Edwardian pine door stripped by dipping in acid and it's come out very nice apart from quite a lot of nail holes which I want to fill before treating with Danish oil. Can anybody reccommend a good filler that I could use? Thanks in advance.

Most hardware shops have those little tubes of wood substitute. Or get some fine sawdust of that colour wood and mix with PVA to make your own filler

For a start, I hope it wasn't acid - alkaline is what you use to remove paint, etc. ;-)

The big snag with filling holes in wood which is going to be left 'natural' afterwards is that fillers don't have grain - and don't take up the oil in quite the same way.

I've had some success by cutting small slivers of wood of the same type and age, and hammering into the holes with glue, then using a spirit pen of about the same colour to draw in the grain. Not totally invisible, but better than any filler I've tried.

Plastic wood, and then paint it.

I can just see everyone in 50 years time enthusing over their 'sytripped chipboard' and 'stripped mdf' doors.

Don't you find that shrinks when it dries though?
