dry lining, insulation and electrics

in a prevoius piost i've been convinced of the merits of insulating an exterior wall (even tho i can't insulate along the entire length) ... so what is the best way to do this

i was planning a timber stud frame, attached to wall and ceiling about

1-2" from the existing (12" stone and lime plaster wall) to leave an air gap. then insulating between the battens (rockwool? or rigid board?) then a vapour barrier / plasterboard? or thermal board? which would be best?

... what i cant quite get my head round is how to i run electrics. normally they could run in the cavity formed by the timber frame - but if this is filled with insulation? there will be space behind the wall but then this barrier would need to be broken to run the wiring through...

thanks in advance

Rigid board expensive but best. If only 2" to play with use it.

Well make some channelss in it.

there will be space behind the wall

You will alwyayts have that. If you use celotex its double skinned with Al. anyway.

Vapour barrier like insulation (don't stop heat) doesn't entirely stop moisture - simply gets it down at a a level it wont cause trouble at. I would definitely fill the studwork with taped down celotex, then gouge out wiring channels, lay the wires and plasterboard over. The celotex and tape will form the vapour barrier.

Drill holes through the timbers and feed cables through in front of the fibreglass.
